Who was Kurt Gödel?
Kurt Gödel was a very famous Austrian mathematician. (In the 1960's, when I first heard of Gödel's Incompleteness Theorem, I remember reading that Gödel was Czechoslovakian, and not Austrian.)
Kurt Gödel is best remembered for his Gödel's Incompleteness Theorem, which is considered to be the greatest accomplishment in mathematics in the 20th century.
During his lifetime, Gödel also published other significant results in logic and mathematics--particulary Set Theory--and for all this is regarded as the greatest logician of the 20th century, and perhaps even as the greatest logician since Aristotle.
Kurt Gödel spent the second half of his life at the Institute of Advanced Studies in Princeton, where he became good friends with Albert Einstein.
The Gödel's Incompleteness Theorem played a major role in the events leading up to the Turing Machine.
